Builder.
Founder.
Engineer.

7 years shipping production systems at Meta, Baidu, and a startup. Now building my own products — one is live on the App Store, another is helping companies become AI-native.

about

hi, i'm serena.

i'm a software engineer with 7 years at Meta, Baidu, and Snipfeed, where i've built ML infrastructure and backend services that run at massive scale. i led projects across 5+ engineers and shipped systems that serve billions of requests. i double majored in CS and data science at UC Berkeley and graduated early.

but what i really care about is building things from scratch. Roamee Pro is an AI tour guide i built and shipped to the App Store. Aria Labs is a self-evolving operating memory helping companies become AI-native. i've been a founding engineer before, and going from zero to one is what gets me out of bed.

outside of work, i travel as much as i can, take photos everywhere i go, and hang out with my cat lilian. i like building things that didn't exist before — whether that's a product, a photo, or a plan to get somewhere new.

Where I've built

2020 – Present

Software Engineer

Meta · Ads ML Infrastructure

Own backend services powering model training at billion-request scale. Lead projects across 5+ engineers end-to-end — scoping, building, and shipping from zero to production. The kind of work where you break something and millions of dollars notice.

2019

Research Assistant

UC San Francisco · Big Data in Radiology

Applied Computer Vision and NLP to medical imaging data, helping physicians predict disease probability from patient features.

2019

Production Engineer Intern

Facebook · MySQL Infrastructure

Built a shard-cleanup service that became a core part of Database Privacy. Took a program from 10+ hours down to under a minute — shipped it, and it's still running.

2018

Founding Engineer

Snipfeed · Recommender Systems

First engineer at an early-stage startup. Built the entire recommendation engine from scratch — data pipeline, similarity models, and serving layer. First time going from zero to one. Got hooked.

2018

Software Engineer Intern

Baidu · Native Advertisements

Designed ad-labeling systems and trained NLP models at scale with PaddlePaddle and Hadoop MapReduce to improve ad recommendation.

🎧
live on app store

Roamee Pro

audio-first AI tour guide — learn about any place, hands-free.

i kept wanting context about the places i visit without staring at my phone. so i built it. roamee pro uses your location and generates real-time audio guides for anywhere in the world. i designed, built, and shipped it solo — from model pipeline to App Store listing. it's live and people are using it.

building now

Aria Labs

self-evolving operating memory for companies going AI-native.

most companies try to adopt AI by bolting chatbots onto existing workflows. it doesn't work because the AI has no context. aria solves this — it captures, retains, and evolves a company's collective knowledge so AI actually understands how the team thinks. the system gets smarter with every interaction, not just every prompt.

i ship at work too — just can't talk about it here.

photography

i see the world through frames. composition, timing, light — it's the same pattern-matching i use in engineering, just applied differently. photography keeps me observant, which makes me a better builder.

travel

travel is where most of my product ideas come from. roamee pro started because i was frustrated as a traveler. i pay attention to what's broken in the real world, and then i go build the fix.

🐈

lilian

my cat, my cofounder in spirit. she supervises all late-night coding sessions and has strong opinions about ship deadlines. every founder needs someone who keeps them grounded.

B.A. Computer Science & Data Science

Graduated a semester early · December 2019

berkeley is where i fell in love with building. i came in curious, graduated early with two majors, and left knowing how to learn anything fast — which has mattered more than any single class.

that said, the technical foundations were real. machine learning and data structures shaped how i think about systems. efficient algorithms taught me to obsess over what scales. database systems showed me that good infrastructure is invisible until it breaks. and computer graphics reminded me that engineering can be genuinely beautiful.

but the most useful thing i took from berkeley was the habit of shipping — i started building side projects before i had any idea what i was doing, and i never really stopped.
